What is web hosting?

I bought a domain at www.web.com, are they my host?

I thought a host was someone who built your site for you?

What is web hosting?

Here%26#039;s the quick and easy explanation;

A domain name, which is what you say you bought, is simply the internet address people will use to find your site online. My domain name for my online hosting company is http://www.mxdwebservice.com. With this information a person can simply type the name into a browser window and find my site. :)

A web hosting company is a company that owns and maintains servers where they store all the files of a persons web site. For everything you read and/or hear about web hosting, it%26#039;s really just a large self storage company for electronic data. You pay them a fee and they will house your web site files and point your new, shiny domain name to the files residing on their servers for you so all the happy, shiny surfers can find you. Unfortunately, you still have to actually provide the webpages they will store and display to the public for you....

Thats where a web designer comes in. This one is an easy one, web designers are exactly what they sound like...they design web pages and web sites for a fee.

It is the combonation of all three services that make up your average web page or site.

My own company, MXD Web Services, offers all three services for very reasonable pricing. Domain names are free with the purchase of any hosting plan and plans start at only $5.77/mo...thats less than $70 for the year! We also offer professional web design, with basic rates starting at only $100/page...of course this is negotiable depending on what your site needs are. :)

For more information about Domain Names, Web Hosting or Web Design go to http://www.mxdwebservice.com where you will find tons of free information about running a successful site!

I hope I was of some help!

Good Luck!

What is web hosting?

The host is the company who has the server.

Other Replys:Well there is domain name.. which is what you bought... www.web.com

And there is web-hosting where all your website will site in during the period of time you want it publically seen.

Webdesigner are the ones who create the site for you.

Other Replys:they are the server that host the website. email me I can help you build a site. I am a web designer.

Other Replys:A domain name is a URL such as http://www.yahoo.com

If you need to experiment with hosting, just go for free hosting for a start. Once you have learnt the basics, go for the paid ones so you get better availability and uptime.

To host your site for free, I would highly recommend the following 2 sites.

Awardspace -%26gt; http://www.awardspace.com (PHP + MySQL)

50webs -%26gt; http://www.50webs.com

Both of these sites allow you to host for free and does not have any advertisement pop ups like those provided by geocities.

I have sites hosted on both the companies. Example

Awardspace -%26gt; http://www.wanginternet.com

50webs -%26gt; http://cctvcamera.50webs.com

Also, read a review I wrote on Awardspace at http://www.wanginternet.com

Hope it helps.

Is it necessary to register a new business? Is reserving a domain name enough?

I live in Minneapolis and want to start a small business. How do I reserve a name for the business (do I reserve a domain name?) What is the best way to reserve a name? Networksolutions or godaddy or yahoo? Also, what is a good service for hosting a website? How much can I expect as a monthly payment? How do I register my business?

Is it necessary to register a new business? Is reserving a domain name enough?

Depending on the type of business you register, you will need to go to either the County Clerk or the Secretary of the State. For a sole proprietorship, DBA or partnership you will need to register with the County Clerk. For a limited liability company, limited partnership, or corporation, you will need to register with the Secretary of the State. You need to register a business in order to report taxes to the IRS (make sure you file the correct IRS forms when registering your business as well). Failure to do so is against the law, and incurs substantial consequences. Contact your County Clerk or Secretary of the State for specific information, they are there to help you. You might also want to consider locating a small business assistance center near you, which can help with creating a business plan, as well as registering, marketing and operating your business. Their advice is normally free. If you do not plan on starting the business right away, you can usually reserve a business name with the county or state for a minimal fee. I hope this helped.

Best of luck in your new venture,

How do you set a default DNS subdomain address for your domain?

The domain I own is dustinsoftware.com, and I want to set it so any address I type in (asdfasfd.dustinsoftware.com or download.dustinsoftware.com) redirects to the address 67.188.0.229, or a CNAME for dustinsoftware.com (same address). Sites like deviantart do this for their hosting, so any new user is given a subdomain and any invalid subdomain takes the user to an error page. How do they do this? Is this a standard DNS technique or do they use their own custom software?

How do you set a default DNS subdomain address for your domain?

You can use a wildcard DNS to do this.

example:

* CNAME dustinsoftware.com.

the wildcard will accept all non-caught domains. If you want a specific subdomain to go somewhere else, then just set it:

* CNAME dustinsoftware.com.

mail A 1.2.3.4.

depending on your DNS software, this will be entered in a different fashion.

How long will it take an expired domain name to be activated again after it has been renewed?

I have a domain name but it has expired on Aug 14, 2007. I have only renewed it on Aug 26 but until now it%26#039;s still on hold. The domain name servers are still at my previous host. How long will it take before it gets activated again?

How long will it take an expired domain name to be activated again after it has been renewed?

Should take a few hours or so...

How long will it take an expired domain name to be activated again after it has been renewed?

Usually it takes hours rather than days.

Could be the payment is holding it up

Choose a new web host that allows you to transfer your Yahoo! domain name. That new service should have instructions on how to do this.

Sue a free hosting company?

is it possible to sue a hosting company that deleted my site w/o any reasons terms don%26#039;t say anythign about them having the right to remove my site for any reason only removes for certain reasons.. and they did this supposly %26quot;by accident%26quot; and i want to get some cash w/o sueing just an amount that will pay for the damage for a 3 yr and for 2 other domains for 1 yrs.

this is not any ad host it is a post4hosting.com i post on forums for my host. 500+ posts to keep my site.. and they destroyed it w/o back-ups

or can any1 help w/ a free temp. host for max. 2 months???

I am creating a private server just for me.

No1 trust Post4hosting.com worst host on the net!

Sue a free hosting company?

unless you suffered real fiscal damages from their accident (why didn%26#039;t you have it copied to you local hard drive in the first place?) you won%26#039;t get anywhere... you%26#039;re not paying anything for it... so what reason would you have to seek restitution? - other than greed of course

Sue a free hosting company?

You can try but you better have a lot of cash up front for an attorney to handle it. Odds are it won%26#039;t get far in court unless you can show that they were malicious in their destruction of you website and that it was not an accident. Also, whatever you could get in a settlement will probably be a lot less than what it would pay you in time and money to take the case to court.

Other Replys:It depends on their terms and condition ....

Usually free hosting companies do not guarantee their service and they reserve the right to close your account any moment.

If you risk any money lost then you better pay a little for hosting.

One of the cheapest and most reliable solutions in my opinion is:

http://www.hostmonster.com/track/getafre...

300gb space, host unlimited domains, lot of preinstalled stuff ... 99.99% server up-time!!!

Other Replys:But can try this..they are very reliable.
